Data Silo at Transmission

High SeverityCommon (3+ cases)Governance & Assurance

What This Pattern Is

When data is created successfully in a source system (badge reader, CCTV, HR system) but is not transmitted to the systems that depend on it (SIEM, access control, incident response), the data becomes isolated. No downstream system can act on, correlate, or learn from it.

How to Recognize It

  • Data exists in source system but is never queried elsewhere

  • No API or integration connects source system to downstream consumers

  • Manual export/import required (if it happens at all)

  • Different teams operate systems without awareness of each other

  • Incident response team discovers data only after incident

What Happens as a Result

  • Intelligence available in source system is invisible to analysts

  • Correlation impossible across physical and cyber data

  • Compliance audits cannot see complete picture

  • Incident response is slower and less complete

  • Patterns across systems never emerge

Why It Happens

  • Systems purchased at different times without integration plan

  • No unified data governance requiring cross-system transmission

  • Cost of integration deferred or not budgeted

  • Legacy systems lack modern APIs

  • Organizational silos prevent cross-team collaboration

From Patterns to Frameworks

When patterns are documented, they become frameworks.
